Bernard West
Bernard West holds BSc and PhD degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Manchester – UMIST, where he also taught for 6 years. He was CEO of CANSOLV Technologies of Montreal, President and COO, Canada Colors and Chemicals Limited. Prior and to that, he had 30 years of experience in the chemical industry with Rhone-Poulenc, Imperial Oil [ Esso ] and Polymer Corporation.
Bernard has also been very active in industry associations and industry-government bodies. He was Chair of the Board of the Canada’s Chemical Producers Association, Chair of The Chemical Institute of Canada, Chair of the Society of Chemical Industry–Canadian Section, Member of the Board of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (Washington, D.C.) He Chaired the Board of Ontario BioAuto Council. and Chaired the IUPAC Committee on Chemical Industry and Co-Ordinated the IUPAC Safety Training Programme.
Bernard is currently Chair of the Board of Haygain Ltd. Lambourn UK, President of Westworks Consulting Limited, Toronto. Co-Vice-Chair and Founding Co-Chair of the BioIndustrial Innovation Canada / Sustainable Chemistry Alliance, Sarnia and Co-Chair of the Canadian Green Chemistry and Engineering Network, Ottawa. He is a member of the board of Sulco Chemicals Ltd, Elmira, a member of the Board of Life Sciences Ontario, Toronto and a member of the Board of the Centre for Research and Innovation in the Bio-Economy [CRIBE], Thunder Bay.
