Jonathan P. Gertler, MD
Co-Founder | Managing Partner & CEO of Back Bay Life Science Advisors
Jonathan P. Gertler, MD has over 35 years of clinical and scientific experience, and extensive advisory work with biotechnology, medical device, diagnostic, and health care IT companies in both the private and public sectors.
A former vascular surgeon, Dr. Gertler is a frequent speaker and writer on strategic issues facing life science companies at all stages.
He has founded a several life sciences companies, including Antyllus Therapeutics; a development-stage biotechnology company focused on aortic diseases, and Optivio, a commercial-stage enterprise software platform for stress management and performance optimization. Dr. Gertler also founded Cardiovascular Technologies, an endovascular company that successfully exited in 2001.
Throughout his advisory career, Dr. Gertler has counseled companies on growth and liquidity strategies and has been responsible for significant aggregate consideration in M&A private and public equity for biotech, medtech, and HCIT companies. Before his advisory and consulting career and during the latter phases of his academic career, he was a venture partner at SV Life Sciences from 1997-2001.
Dr. Gertler was an academic vascular surgeon, primarily as Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has published extensively in clinical vascular surgery and endothelial and smooth muscle cell biology. He has served as an ad-hoc editor for the Journal of Vascular Surgery, The New England Journal of Medicine, and The Journal of Critical Care Medicine and Surgery.
He currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board at Boston University School of Medicine and the Venture Advisory Board of the BioInnovation Institute in Copenhagen. He is a supporter and advisor to several non-profit organizations dedicated to inclusion and diversity, including Life Science Cares and Squashbusters, a sports-based youth development program serving young people in Boston, Lawrence, and Providence.
Dr. Gertler trained in Vascular Surgery at Yale in General Surgery and the Massachusetts General Hospital. He earned a medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, an MBA in Health Policy and Management from Boston University, and a BA from Wesleyan University. Dr. Gertler is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of numerous academic and clinical surgical societies. He is a Series 24 Registered Securities Principal and is an avid musician, athlete, and fly angler.
Aaron Misener,

Aaron is Director of Strategic Communications for Bioenterprise Canada, Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine. As the leading national agricultural accelerator, Bioenterprise Canada delivers a significant impact on Canada’s economy by supporting innovative, high-growth businesses with programs and mentorship that match their potential. Aaron utilizes a background in marketing and professional writing to source and secures new revenue streams and funding opportunities, ensure that the organization’s core messaging and mandates remain consistent, and maintain government relations. Aaron acts as an advisor and editor for marketing content related to Bioenterprise Canada and advises on event partnership and sponsorship globally.
Aaron began at Bioenterprise Canada as a Communications and Special Projects Analyst before moving to a management role in marketing, and finally moving to a strategic position as Director. Prior to working in the public sphere, he managed marketing and social portfolios for web-based tech start-ups and maintained a large base of client projects in the education technology sector. Aaron graduated with an M.A. from McMaster University and is a published academic and poet.
Jeremy Laurin,
Senior Vice President, External Relations and Business Development, Loyalist College
Jeremy Laurin is the Senior Vice President, External Relations and Business Development at Loyalist College in Belleville, ON.
Previously he was the Vice President of Business Development and Partnerships at the Ontario Centres of Excellence, now the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI). There Jeremy led an experienced team of Business Development Managers to all corners of the province to find out what’s needed by industry and explore the halls and labs of academia for the latest innovations breakthroughs. Jeremy and his team helped commercialize innovations, transfer technologies and develop promising talent to grow the Ontario economy.
Prior to OCI, Jeremy was the founding President and CEO of ventureLAB, an innovation hub for Central Ontario and the northern GTA that reaches more than 1.8 million Ontarians.
An entrepreneur at heart, Jeremy founded his first of three technology firms in Kingston, Ont., in 1997. Under his guidance, all three were born global. Jeremy’s responsibilities included opening offices in China, Europe, Japan, Korea, and the United States.

Dr. Pradip Banerjee,
Chairman & CEO of Xybion Corporation
Dr. Pradip K. Banerjee is Xybion’s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. He is the founding managing partner, now retired, of Accenture’s R&D line of business. He is an entrepreneurial senior executive with more than 30 years of in-depth experience in the global life sciences, healthcare, and services industries in operations, strategic management, business development, investments, and new venture creations. Previously, he held several R&D management positions at Abbott, Glaxo Smith Kline, and served as President and CEO of the Science Center in Philadelphia.
