LSO and Montreal InVivo submit joint response to 2022 PMPRB Guidelines consultation
Life Sciences and Montreal InVivo have submitted a joint response to the PMPRB’s 2022 Guidelines consultation.
The submission calls for an immediate pause to the current PMPRB consultation to allow more time for case studies, analysis, and dialogue with stakeholders to work through issues in advance of moving forward with any final guidelines approach.
The submission also recommends that future guidelines be grounded on three specific elements:
- Predictable and certain price tests
- Alignment with the court decisions and the PMPRB’s mandate to regulate against abuse of patent
- Alignment and support for broader government imperatives, including a competitive and innovative health products market, bolstering the life sciences sector and support for Canada’s health system with therapies that keep Canadians healthy
LSO 2023 Federal Pre-Budget Submission
As one of the most innovative sectors in our economy, the life sciences sector holds the key to driving Canada’s economic prosperity and competitiveness, developing medical innovations that keep Canadians healthy and productive, and addressing some of society’s greatest challenges, including climate change and food security. However, taking advantage of these opportunities will require bold action and long-term commitment.
Life Sciences Ontario’s submission to the federal Finance Committee for its 2023 pre-budget consultations makes one key recommendation for the federal government ahead of its next budget: “Expand the scope and ambition of the Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy beyond pandemic preparedness to focus on creating a globally competitive policy and business environment for life sciences companies, and establish an advisory table, comprised of public and private sector leaders, to inform, guide and report on the implementation of the strategy.”
LSO Pre-Budget Submission to the Ministry of Finance, Government of Canada – February, 2022
LSO’s submission to Finance Canada’s 2022 pre-budget consultations highlights the life sciences sector’s role in Canada’s health and economic security following COVID-19. The submission’s three key recommendations are:
- Implement the Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy
- Create a working group of leaders in the public, not-for-profit and private sector to guide the implementation of the Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy (e.g., by reconstituting or reconvening the Health & Biosciences Economic Strategy Table)
- Repeal the PMPRB regulation changes
Life Sciences Ontario submission to CADTH national formulary consultation
The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH), recently asked for stakeholders to comment on its proposed framework for a potential pan-Canadian formulary. Stakeholder input will be used to inform a report that will be submitted to Health Canada, shared with provincial and territorial governments, and made publicly available later this year. The aim is to contribute to national pharmacare policy discussions in Canada.
